Jewelry Making Benefits For Kids

few days back, my friend suggested that i do some research about how jewelry making hobby can benefit growing children. As we all know, art and craft is always one of the subjects in every school education module. why is that so?  i have not gone into depth with regards to this but what i have found so far has definitely made me glad that i have been doing craftwork with my kids as young as they were 3 years old!

My kids enjoy making jewelry and ever since i started teaching them the more creative part of wire working jewelry, they have become more and more creative beyond my expectation. just shows that there is no age boundary to creativity and skill. Children are like sponges. they will absorb everything we teach them and lets just instill good positive ones and hope it will stay on with them and pass on to future generations to come.

so with whatever little information i have manage to "google" so far, let me share some with you.

:)

BENEFITS OF ARTS AND CRAFTS - JEWELRY MAKING FOR KIDS

Young children are very active. They are learning so many different things such as dressing themselves, eating properly and being social. Everything that a child does is a critical part of his or her development and a very important part of their life. You hear a lot about crafts for young kids and how important it is to introduce them to making crafts but have you ever wondered why it is so important?
There are many benefits associated with introducing young children to crafts.

  • Crafts help to inspire the imagination and creativity
  • It keeps the child active and entertained in a positive way
  • It encourages hobbies
  • They make great family gifts
  • Crafts provide a sense of accomplishment for the child
  • It gives the parent a little extra free time

Crafts can be almost anything that you can imagine. For instance, kids can draw their own pictures and color them. They can cut pictures out of magazines and glue them on construction paper or put together a scrapbook. Making jewelry or macrame are crafts that children love. Even knitting and crocheting are excellent crafts for kids that help to build character.

Most of the time you can find everyday household items that can be used in craft making. Add some colorful construction paper, glue, crayons, paint or markers designed for children and who knows what you can come up with. You can also buy craft kits that can make specific designs by following simple easy directions.

Kids learn fast and the crafts they do today could turn into future hobbies they can always enjoy. Crafts help to build the character and self-esteem that children need to make it through this life. Help your child develop his or her creativity by introducing them to crafts at an early age.

The Art of Living With the Help of Jewellery Making

Everybody loves buying and wearing jewellery. But there are some people who love making them too. Apart from the jewellery maker, the goldsmith etc., there are people who love making jewellery as a hobby. Making jewellery can be quite a satisfying and fulfilling hobby. It also brings about positive changes in us. And therefore many parents and schools encourage this hobby among children. In this article we are going to look at some of the benefits that jewellery making brings about in our life.

Jewellery making is a creative activity - and therefore it
enhances creative thinking. This creative thinking also trickles to other aspects of life as well. If you are involved in jewellery making, your hobby helps you think creatively in various situations in life. You start to resolve problems in a creative way. Everything you do, has a touch of elegance in it - and that would also impresses not just yourself, but also others who come in touch with you.

Jewellery making also
improvises your organisational skills. You tend to grow an uncanny sense of how things are to be done and where and how the resources would get utilised. It builds your concentration power and you can focus on things pretty well. And having a strong ability to focus and concentrate is very helpful and critical in every sphere of life.

Helping your children take part in this activity would not only help them build these soft skills, but also apart from these,
jewellery making would instil self confidence in them. If you too are actively involved in your child's project, it will help you spend quality time with them. They would connect with you better and that would strengthen the bond of love further. Having made the
jewellery, your child can wear them and this in itself is a great pleasure - a great feeling of exhilaration.

Jasmin's Crafty Mind

Not to be left behind, aisyah's sister JASMIN.
Jasmin is only 9 years old, but obviously VERY ambitious. She wants to be just like her big sister and mum and proudly crafted these two rings [with one more coming up soon] as part of J's Ring Triology :)  by applying the circle of life wrapping method i taught her earlier.

I love to do art and craft with my kids because it encourages them to  think. I encourage them to come up with something new and creative.

Jasmin decided to make it into a pendant to give to her cousin sha sha as a birthday present :)

Aisyah's Creations

This posting is dedicated to aisyah. She loves art very much and very passionate about her craft. As my apprentice, part of her task is to re-construct my jewelry designs using pictorials i created as her guide. To know whether my pictorials worked or need more detailed instructions, she will test it for me.  if its an effective tool, she need not ask me anything but if she needs more information then i know that the pictorial has some flaws.

I encourage every student of mine to be creative in their own way. No doubt getting ideas from beading mags, books and tutorials can help but coming up with something new is always a challenge.

One method i taught aisyah is to start something with an open mind and heart. To get  ideas thru this way is very difficult but once you get the idea..it will just flow from your heart and into your work.

To come up with an original work sometimes can finish up to one full spool of wire...but as we all know to succeed, you must first fail. With all the techniques and patterns we are so familiar with, apply some of these but make it your own.

The bracelet below is designed and crafted 100% by Aisyah. With no reference, she twisted the wires and added the beads as how she feels would look right to her eyes. No doubt  its a tad rough, but with some polishing, she can be very shiny in this craft :) After all, aisyah is only 15...and she has a long way to go.
well done!

Life is like a box of chocolates.....

Hello everybody,

Is life really like a box of chocolates?  if you happen to like everything chocolate...say chocolate with nuts, chocolate with raisins...plain chocolate, dark chocolate...orange chocolate...then i guess anything that you pick out from the box will always be a gud thing. BUT what if you only like milk chocolate and ONLY that?

i know the saying means that "you will never know what you will get"  and its right. You can pick one and it can be something you like or something you just hate...and sometimes....you can get chocolates with maggots!..and that must be the down low part of life.

Last week, had several things going that is like a box of chocolates. Two people that i had the privilege of knowing passed away within days of each other and both died of cancer. They were both young and i hoped they had lived their life as they wanted and made good of it. I  always hear the saying, LIFE IS SHORT.  i on the other hand, believed that life is as long as you lived it. Its never too short if you live your life by doing things that you love and do it good.

My son was also hospitalised last week for about a week. He is already discharged but recovery is pretty slow but we know that he will be ok. After hearing some  sad news of frens dying young, his recovery is definitely something we are so thankful to God.

AND as icing to a cupcake for this week ending,  i received a LOVELy surprise from a perfectly friendly stranger whom i made frens with recently thru my site. She took the trouble to send to me lovely lovely beads that she purchased recently and its all the way from Sarawak. THANK YOU to you, who has been so kind and thoughtful. May God bless you  and may your kind heart stay true and happy always :)

Its 4.05am. I know its late, but there are just so many things to do. Time will never wait for us. Once its past its past. So we have to find the time or make time for whatever we want to do. Even though its late, I am happy that i am able to complete one project that i have been saving for quite awhile just so i can concentrate and to pour in more of artistic idea into it and i hope it shall be well received :)

till then... take care  :))

Baltic Amber Collection

Recently we had the pleasure of making new acquaintances with two lovely people from Poland, Mr. Gregory and Madam Elizabeth. We  had no knowledge whatsoever about amber, learned a lot from our brief visit to their booth during the Malaysian Jewelry Festival.

I, whom have never been a fan of amber, fell in love! It wasn't enough going to the booth once,  twice...but 3 times till the last day of the event.
It was so fascinating learning about the history and formation of amber and viewing fossils from millions and millions years ago lodged permanently between the hardened pine tree resin.

We secured quite a collection of large amber cabochons , some with tree branches, some with tiny insects and we even got one with a full tiny leave that can clearly be seen without the magnifier.

Ambers are generally known to be expensive and i have always wondered why. After learning more about the formation of this extraordinary stone, only now i can appreciate the value of amber.

These stones are better viewed personally rather than posting it in my blog to appreciate its beauty.

If you like amber and would like to know more about it also to  view it with magnified lens, please do not hesitate at all to ask me about it. I can tell you everything i know about it and how to do some simple tests to know that you are getting a genuine stone.

[more] Good things come [to those who wait] and even out the stresses.

HI everyone,

I have completed partial order that i received recently from an advertising agency for a skin care company,

the order is enough to keep me quite busy planning the materials required, quantity, costing and shipment. I miss doing the artistic part of this craft and so happens i just remembered....YUP just remembered that my daughter gave me a LONG list of orders she received from her frens. With the PMR exam going on now, i dont want to disappointment them by not fulfilling their orders. SO i have been twisting some wires today and do admit that some of the requests can be a tad challenging! :)

Ok, now lets move on to my project.
At first i tot it was a joke because the enquiry came thru an email and by a lady name ms Goonting. Just because i was thinking of a haircut, maybe my husband is pulling a prank on me.  Come onnn.....is this a GOTCHA joke?
A thousand apologies kimberley :)   but being a joker myself, i tot  the joke is now on me hehehehe

I am happy to say that its NOT a joke and it was a serious enquiry and the deal went thru. I submitted few designs which i think wud look good, simple and elegant and yet doesnt require too much time to make. i planned the colors and crafted all within hours, right after we packed up from the bazaar which is usually around 11 pm.

I was given the task to design a piece of jewelry that can be assembled within 15 minutes. what?! 15 minutes?!  in 15 minutes, what kind of wirework jewelry can i come up with that is interesting, with the elements of wirework and at the same time looks great, christmassy feel and colors and bling?!
(later do i realised that the 15 minutes tag is actually a blessing :) )

To add more pizzazz to the challenge, i was also busy promoting my craft at the KDE ramadan bazaar and at the same time already working every hour and every minute fulfilling orders to be delivered before raya! i was already sleeping only about 4 hours every night and no doubt its a good thing but it did UPPED my stress level.

weeks  went by and til few days just before raya i was informed that, the skin care company rep accepted my proposal, ALHAMDULILLAH! but WAIT, it doesnt end there. I am required to submit every details of the jewelry to be submitted the first day after the raya holidays. Its almost raya eve and i was still making customization orders and my mind was racing.
There goes my plan of a great break, feet up enjoying the bliss of our planned raya vacation at pullman lakeside resort. Still recuperating from a violent case of food poisoning ,I was so stressed out but my GREAT Family supplied me with words of encouragement and support that i decided, forget about it. Its Raya.  I CAN do it the minute we arrived back from our break. After all i work best under pressure. Well i did just that and managed to submit everything plus new design and color proposal by around 3.30 am. That is the end of the story and here i am promoting the event that i hope will materialized.

Apart from supplying the jewelry, I will also hold a mini demo and workshop for
customers.

The dates have not been finalised yet but i was informed by Leo Burnett rep that the promotion will run tentatively from 16th -18th October as the Weekend Specials @ Jusco Mid Valley Counter. The demo is on the 17th of october from 10am to 9pm.

So if you are a customer of SK-II, please come and try out  wirework craft with me :))

Another location yet to be confirmed is at
Jusco Tebrau City on  19th  Dec.

till then, take care and smile always..... :)

HI everyone! :)

just to keep you all updated with what i have in store for you right after i am done with my project. Other than busy with the project that i will announce soon, i am in the mids of several other projects planned till end of this year.

As we go thru our life, i am sure we will always remember our first love, first car, first house, first of everything. When i made my first online sale, i can remember feeling very excited, nervous, scared about my customer's reaction all rolled into one huge ball bouncing around the pit of my stomach and chest. Sort like falling in love, right? hahaha

ok, Today i am making another first. My first export. A contact i made online who is now a very good fren and online chat partner, has given me the task of finding beads and stones for her own growing business overseas. I just love shopping, especially when using other people's expense account! All the beads and stones packed and i am sending it onto her way soon :)

Moving on to the pics i have uploaded here, these are still works in progress and to be completed and launched into my blog just before NEW MOON, sometime in november. Yup this collection is a follow up from the TWILLIGHT series. I am still playing around with the beads and design, so we will see what will actually emerge from my head :)

till then, thank you for your continuous support and keep a close watch for the next big thing coming soon :)

Its a Blessing

dearest everyone,

with all your good wishes and prayers and with God's Blessings has lead an agency towards my way. The agency approached me out of the many they have probably "googled" or perhaps there is an unknown thoughtful person that has lead them towards me. thank you.

Beginning today till end of October, i will not be taking anymore orders to fulfill a committment i made today. As for the IN2WIRE CRAFT wirework classes that i have arranged earlier, i am sorry but i have to cancel them all for now.

I received many enquiries with regards to customized order and i am so so so sorry that i am unable to take your orders. I have your email addresses and i will contact you with regards to all your enquiries as soon as i have fulfill this project that i am undertaking now.

i will still be checking my emails everyday, so no worries with regards about other enquiries like where to get some wirework material and other questions . Will be happy to answer any questions :) the best that i can.

Thank you very much for all the support, kind words, good wishes and compliments with regards to my work. I sincerely appreciate it *hugs :)

take care and tata :)

Need to do some spring cleaning. i give myself a day to do that and then i will fulfill my pledge :)))

i see that its almost 10 days since i posted anything and tot will have tons of pics to post but luck has definitely been on my side of late, Alhamdulillah, because on the last day of the bazaar, the crowd was incredibly "generous" with me. THANK YOU :))

hope everyone's holiday break and raya celebration was as superb as mine.

My FAMILY

Its almost 3 weeks since we started this "crazy fabulous idea" of participating in a bazaar organized by Kelab Darul Ehsan. During this time we have become gypsy-like toting our XXXL luggages.

The experience has so far been good even though there were days when we just see the crowd pass us by as if we were invisible. Are we doing it again next year? hmmmm.......as my hubs said, down memory lane ,we will forever remember this year as the year we did that crazy thing! :)

I know the bazaar hasn't ended yet, but i have to say my prayers of thankfulness and much gratitude to my family who has been very patient and very supportive:

1. My husband, who helped to do the laundry, and more laundry and more laundry while i was busy twisting and cutting wires, who is kind enough not to say anything even when he hears "hammering" sounds in his dream when in fact they are REAL sounds coz i was indeed hammering at 2,3 4 am! , who helped to transport our XXXL luggage and jewelry frame board, who stayed with us to help man the booth even though convinced that he is scaring potential customers because of his "large" presence. The list goes on...... you did too much babe n love you for it! :)

2. My MIL, whom i hope enjoys the "company" of our crazy kids. She also takes care of the kids during break of fast. HOW can we ever repay that ?! MUM *hugs

3. My MUM, who is my #1 customer!.....*hugs

4. My SIL, who encourages us to "terjun jer dulu". Thank you for your patience too, $upport and help in promoting W&Q.

5. My Sisters n BIL, oh yes! very $uportive....thanks! :)

6. My kids, nieces and nephew. Thank you for your help carrying everything, thank you for not grumbling, thank you for not complaining, thank you for having the most fun! running around the club and i hope you all enjoy this crazy experience :)

i think that is about it! :))))
